EPS Geofoam has many great physical properties that include its light weight and high compressive strength. This customer located in Temple, TX used 12" sheets of foam that were then cut with a Sawzall on site to lighten the load on top of a septic tank. Covering the septic tank solely with dirt would have exceeded the weight limit allowed.
EPS Geofoam can weigh as little as 1 pound per cubic foot with a compressive resistance at 1% deformation of 3.6 pounds per square inch or 520 pounds per square foot. In comparison dirt with some top soil weighs between 74-110 pounds per square foot.
